Well we guessed correctly that an Asian would go well at the Volvo China Open with home player Li Haotong the victor by three shots from Felipe Aguilar and Richard Bland. Olesen and Bourdy both finished top twenty but couldn’t find that extra when needed and our Korean, Wang missed the cut.

In the States the weather was so bad that the tournament was reduced to 54 holes with Brian Stuard winning a three man play-off at the second extra hole. Our picks finished 11th, Howell, 20th Fowler and missed cut Weekley. Howell is certainly one to keep an eye on as he was challenging until a bogey stopped him in his tracks on the back nine.

This week it is the Wells Fargo at Quail Hollow in North Carolina where Rory McIlroy defends the title that he won by seven shots last year. This is a course the top guys love to play so expect some exciting golf at the weekend. It is about time Justin Thomas got his game together and he played well here last year. I will take him each way along with Patrick Reed who looks sure to be challenging. If Rory turns up with his “A” game the others are fighting for second as he bids to win for the third time.

The European Tour is in Morocco for the Trophee Hassan won last year by Richie Ramsay. He beat Romain Wattel by one shot and the runner up could go well again as he is in form. Gregory Bourdy could go well again along with David Horsey. Not a tournament to go in heavy on so keep stakes low!
